Piotr Leon Czyżewski was an outstanding yet today unjustly forgotten figure – a soldier, an officer of the Polish Army, and at the same time an architect who played a key role in the development of aviation infrastructure in the Second Polish Republic. Between 1927 and 1939, he designed and supervised the construction of the most important investments serving military aviation, including the Warsaw Okęcie airfield and the modern armaments plant at Paluch, where serial production of the PZL.37 Łoś bombers was launched.

As a recognised specialist, he was later appointed to oversee the construction of factories in Rzeszów and Mielec within the framework of the Central Industrial District. These were strategic projects of great importance to Poland’s defence potential.

After the outbreak of war, Czyżewski served in the Polish Armed Forces and later emigrated to Argentina. His life, achievements, and forgotten biography have been recalled and documented in this publication. It is a fascinating story of dedication, knowledge, and service to the homeland – not only with a weapon in hand, but also with a pencil at the drawing board.
