Polish Wings No. 35. Supermarine Spitfire V. Polish Squadrons over Dieppe

In 2022, the 80th anniversary was marked of the Allied landing at Dieppe, France, on 19 August 1942. It was one of the most controversial battles of the Second World War, involving extensive air operations to provide direct support for the naval landing and to defend the ground and naval forces against the Luftwaffe.

This book is a tribute to No. 1 Polish Fighter Wing of the Polish Air Force, the most effective Allied wing during the operation. The Wing provided 10% of the Spitfire squadrons that took part in the battle, suffered 3.5% of the losses, and achieved (according to RAF Fighter Command) 17% of all enemy aircraft destroyed. The squadrons with the highest number of victories were the Polish 303 and 317 Squadrons. It is worth noting that they achieved this while flying the Spitfire V, whereas some Allied squadrons were already equipped with the much more advanced Spitfire IX.

Several hundred carefully selected illustrations, each with extensive captions, depict the Spitfires of these five Polish squadrons and the men who flew and maintained them in support of the Dieppe landing.
