Polish and English text

Within six months, a group of young Warsaw aircraft designers built and test-flew the RWD-4 sports aircraft, designed specifically to take part in the 1930 International Touring Aircraft Contest (Challenge 1930). The RWD-4 was the first Polish sports aircraft to enter serial production – a series of nine examples was built at the Experimental Aviation Workshops. These machines were operated by the Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Silesian, and Lwów aeroclubs.

The publication includes several dozen photographs – among them a dozen never published before – technical drawings in 1/48 scale, and profiles of all RWD-4 aircraft produced, allowing readers to study in detail the differences between individual machines. A number of period “gems” uncovered by the author shed new light on the history of Polish sports aviation of the 1930s. Thanks to numerous appearances in national and international competitions, the RWD-4 and its crews were an excellent showcase of Polish aviation.
